dissolved girl

considering i did not have a break for the past 8 weeks, this weekend seemed fantastic. though i was pretty tired from the rigours of the week, i managed to have great fun. i woke up early saturday morning to go down to the greyhound station where zeehan was supposed to arrive around 9:30-ish, but as i had expected, the bus ride was delayed. i was frantically trying to find out their status as it was not noted on arrivals and she wasnt picking up her phone. i was kinda surprised to hear naheen's voice when the phone was actually picked up, and i found out she too was coming over, which was great news.

luckily, i had brought along my ipod to keep me occupied for the 2 hours i was waiting for them, and i was listening to the bunch of massive attack songs that i had downloaded earlier in the week. as my other cousins noted, they're fantastic, i've only been listening to their most popular ones, and this time, ive noted some of their more creative stuff like 'inertia creeps' and 'dissolved girl' (hence the topic title) 'i against i' and 'black milk.' its dark, but somewhat captivating sounds really intrigue me.

so soon enough, they were here, and i took them around tech for a while before leaving for her friend's place up in chamlee. it was kinda good in a sense that i was not heading to UGA, as that would have taken some time, and since i do not know anyone there, it would also have been a little awkward.

so we went over to shehzeen's place, and for the longest time, i was listening to a lot of girl talk, which ive not really had since i visited emory with pamela and leisha which was long way back last semester. but it was very welcomed, since its very different from all the guy talk that ive been having all semester, and it was sort of refreshing to be able to talk about a lot of stuff that the people i know in tech would not care about.

it was a neat surprise to find out that my cousins also liked the same kind of films as i did. they showed me number of of hindi films, which werent the usual dancing happy go lucky ones, but really serious ones. i had to give the first one 'swades' up, since by then, i had like 8 hours of sleep between thursday and friday, and i really needed some rest. i watched 'choker bali' which is actually a bengali story, and i did not expect to be impressed, but i was. we watched a good portion of 'american chai,' a hilarious indian-american film, i'll have to get a hold of that to finish it up soon.

since i had completely a lot of work over the week, i could afford to spend the whole weekend with them, which was great. prior to meeting them, i had watched 'closer' once again, as well as 'dark city' which was one of the recommended films to watch by dr. tryon. after i came back, i finally got to catch 'the legends of the fall' and that was one fantastic film that im surprised no one seems to know.

tech is celebrating international films festival and though i would like to catch all of the films, i cannot do so, as i need to start preparing for next week's meelee. however, i set aside time to catch 'monsieur ibrahim' which was a tale of a friendship forged between an old muslim man and a young jewish boy in a rundown area of paris. the movie is only about 90 minutes long, but it seemed as if the adventure could last forever, and i have not had a chance to see that kind of european film for the longest time. its very hard to find something that is of that duration, but feels longer, without making the audience feel like its a draggy storyline. i've technically caught all the other films except for the one being shown today, which is a documentary about the vietnam war which won the best documentary oscar in 2003 or soemthing. im not really interested in catching that, but since ive watched whats being shown for the rest of the week, i might set aside time for it. 'goodbye lenin!' and 'kandahar' is being shown for the next 2 days, with 'the motorcycle diaries' being shown on friday, which a number of us are going to catch. i only wish they'd screen foreign films more frequently.

and surprise surprise, i got a phone call from rolls royce on friday. they want to conduct a phone interview with me this wednesday, which is great, only for the fact that this might just be an internship. i'll try to find out if it somehowe can be extended for at least 2 semesters, coz then it can count as a co-op, and if its not, even if i get the job, i might have to reject that.

interviews this week; milliken company and masterfoods (the owner of mars and M&M's)

its a rather light week save for the calculus test and the interviews. im gonna get all the sleep i can technically afford and maybe squeeze in some time to catch movies that i could potentially use for my english term paper.
