ok, i went for the written drivin test...

i took the test... it was like total no brainer. any crack head can pass... well, i think there was one crack head there anyway..

sat for 15 mins.. laughed for a while coz it was such insult to men's intelligence... got everythin rite... n got myself a driving instruction permit...

which means i can juz go for drivin lessons n when i feel ready, take the behind the wheel test n get myself a licence...

or, drive wit someone who has a licence, for at least 25 hrs, then take the test... whichever...

so yea, i guess they need to make it as simple as that.. not everyone is capable of goin through a tough drivin test thing...

so in a sense, i feel relieved, coz singapore tests r so hard, or so tts wat i hear...

if u guys were takin the test here, u'd feel that ure payin US$20 juz to 'buy' the permit.. heh..
"I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hulluva engineer! A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer!"

one of georgia tech's cheers, it seems. quite unique.. haha.

i think im gonna like goin there..

yep, officially final four.

georgia tech r the biggest underdogs, but the fact tt they made it to final four is actually surprising enough. cant really expect more.

but if they can beat oklahoma state.... well... tts always a bonus.

Georgia Tech edges Kansas 79-71 in OT! Wat a tight tight game...

now GT Yellow Jackets equalled their history best, which was back in 1990!

Next opponent, Oklahoma State.. can they defeat the team that beat St. Joe's??
alrite... pretty much the technicals r set... tomorrow i shall get DSL and cable TV. now i can unleash the monster within this computer... installed Dev-C++ compiler, Visual Basic Pro, etc, etc. i need to download patches... CM!! yep.. once the DSL's activated, i'll not hav to worry bt slow speed, inability to carry out certain actions, etc etc.

all's gd..!

finally takin my written drivin test this wk, after long delay.

should hav been in boston this wkend. sigh, we were afraid hasib's alien card would b retained for changes which would not allow us to travel if tt happened.

georgia tech playin kansas u later on today to battle for their spot in the final four. can they do it? the press seems to think kansas is more equipped...

Final Score from Reebok Stadium;
Bolton Wanderers 1
Henrik Pedersen (4th)

Newcastle United 0

....

they can comprehensively dismantle Real Mallorca, but not Bolton...

wat the hell's goin on...

Saturday, March 27, 2004

Yessss..... Georgia Tech is through to the Quarter Finals... they name it the Elite Eight. I'm not sure if this is the first time... edged Nevada 72-69... Next stop, Kansas who comprehensively defeated UAB 100-74.

so its gonna b Newcastle vs PSV for QFs...

the winner will meet either Olympique Marseille or Inter Milan for Semis...

and the emergin team from tt tie will meet oneo of these teams; glasgow celtic vs villareal/bordeaux vs valencia.

its gonna b interesting if its newcastle vs celtic for all british finals.

but then again, i think improvement of the yr has to b the french teams. at this point, 2 french teams in the QFs of champs league and two more in QFs of UEFA.

lets look at the coefficients so far.

Spain - 4 (2 in CL, 2 in UEFA)
France - 4 (2 in CL, 2 in UEFA)
England - 3 (2 in CL, 1 in UEFA)
Italy - 2 (1 in CL, 1 in UEFA)
Portugal - 1 (1 in CL)
Holland - 1 (1 in UEFA)
Scotland -1 (1 in UEFA)

okay, seriously, we usually wouldnt even expect 2 teams from France, but here they are. and surprise surprise, no German teams. Boy, what has happened to them.

But its gettin real interesting from here...

Final Score from Soi Moix (Palma, Spain);
UEFA Cup Fourth Round 2nd Leg

Real Mallorca 0

Newcastle United 3
Alan Shearer (46th & 89th)
Craig Bellamy (78th)

Newcastle advances to Quarter Finals with 7-1 aggregate score

Oh man!!! 7-1 aggregate, belie' dat y'all!!!!

The scorelines of the first and the second leg makes it sound as tho they were strollin in the park! my my.

next awaits Air Bobby's former club, PSV Eindhoven.

n we dont hav to worry bout liverpool for the semis, coz they were knocked out by marseille.

so juz gotta fend em off for that 4th spot.

HOWAY THE LADS!

all the forms r filled up, juz needs to b sent. once i get the medical done, i'll hav to photocopy all the documents and mail it. then i wont have anythin to worry bt til the next mail or somethin.

did u guys know george lucas is an alumnus of USC? n tiger woods was a stanford student?

amazing.

k im glad tt all the paper work's over. now i can get back to finish studin for the driver's written test. then i can get back to further maths and C++ programming.

oh crap i need to wait for the DHL package to arrive, got my datas. but that should b here by tomorrow, if not by this wk.

Tuesday, March 23, 2004

hey guys...

the day's gettin much better. its warm, its sunny and its nice. this is wat spring feels like.

been thinkin bt the uni thing over n over again yesterday. i guess i'll graduate from georgia tech then. i was wonderin if i should transfer, but wit the financial aspect, uncertain, its better not. besides, there r so many things goin on in georgia tech. so many exciting opportunities. y pass the chance? the only one prob is tt the graduation rate within 4 yrs is v v low, but i guess i wont mind stayin longer if it means i'll b more qualified.

yep yep. n work for couple of yrs, then most prob graduate sch. stanford sounds real nice, but tt remains to b seen. i would hav to sit for GMAT and there r other things to consider too.

did lotsa work. filled up the apps form for medical check tomorrow, filled the rebates form and even squeezed time to reply to people's mails.

its been a gd day. yep. n its gonna get better.

i was juz doin stuff in friendster today, u guys noticed now we can input our schs into the new section rite? they've been makin some changes. so i decided to look for anyone who's within my personal network who's enrolled in georgia tech. i came across one person, who seems to b an ex junior in SA. yea, he should b j2 now. funny thing is, he seems to b in georgia tech already. now im wonderin how he got himself admitted without havin to do high school. i mean havin sat for the A's mean we're more than qualified for georgia tech, but without the high sch academic record, im wonderin how the admission committee would hav accepted him. its a very weird case. unless his SAT scores were damn high or somethin. even if it is, the committee would still need high sch record. work is a big big jump from o level standard. hmmm..

k gotta go now, goin to go over to my uncle's place to watch american idol. hope camile sings well tonight.

alritey...

feel much more secure... in a sense.

its all set n done. im goin to georgia tech. made my medical appointment today, checkup on wednesday, n TB screenin on fri. after tt, send in the medical forms. dad'll settle the acceptance fee n the housing prepayment by this week too, so i'll b clear to fill up the online housing application. its so cool, since atlanta was the venue for the 96 olympics, the buildings n facilities were upgraded for the atheletes, now tt they're gone, the students in georgia tech r reapin the benefits. so v new n modern livin facilities. first class. so long as everythin is processed before 1 may, all freshman r guaranteed housing. tts one worry gone.

called up the office of undergraduate admission today, since the person in charge was not in, left a message about my cert not being ready n if my poor performance in the a's would affect any chances of admission. guess now, since im entitled to 12 gatech hours. so will b waitin for a call in the next 3 days.

read up a lil more info, dunno if i should b happy or sad. seems ga tech is really a tough sch. only 23% actually graduates in 4 yrs. most of the time coz students r involved in co-op programs n tryin to complete the other courses tt they need to finish up in order to graduate. tt sucks. i might b stayin there for 5 or even 6 yrs. but employment rate is damn gd. 91% within 6 mths of graduation. much better than a lot of unis. but this bk has labelled ga tech as 'revenge of the nerds' sch. haha. i guess i wont find tt surprising, JCs r really work hard-play hard arena, im v v experienced in tt field.

so accordin to the article, here r few things i should do in ga tech.
1. get internship program in atlanta (supposedly abundant in atlanta)
2. try to get exchange program in japan (ooh yea will make it so excitin)
3. minor or get certificate program in japanese, if not some other thing (will make my resume look v impressive, a plus pt if i decide to do MBA)
4. participate in co-op program (a third of ga tech is in co-op, makin it one of the nation's biggest)
5. participate in research program (since its a prominent research sch, y not?)
6. sign up for freshmen experience (orientation part 3)
7. join fraternity (its one of the few schs tt allow freshmen to join frat, n their parties r v popular in ga tech, since its such a small sch)
8. participate in intramural games (yes, i can play soccer!!)
9. n hopefully get partial scholarship, if not, work loan.

yep yep. man, im excited. seriously. its wat ive been readin up on for the past few days. price is v v reasonable, high rankin, gd reputation, everythin to gain. i dun care if i get accepted by berkeley or carnegie mellon now. im a yellow jacket, a rumblin' wreck.

haha, tts the sch's nicknames.

anyway, another thing is tt its march madness. n ga tech's men's basketball team is GOOD. they juz made it into the national top 16 yesterday. i used to wonder why ppl follow NCAA tournaments (college level games) instead of NBA. now i know y. there r like so many teams from so many places n its so unpredictable. n the players change more often. march is nicknamed 'march madness' (im not sure if u guys ever heard, but ive heard it from few yrs back) coz the national tournaments begin in march. before tt, all the colleges play among other colleges from their own little league, called conferences. since its a huge country, there r like 20-30 conferences. (much comparable to how the B & C div sports functions in sg sec schs, analogy is like each conference is like north zone, south zone, etc juz tt there r many of em) so the top two or three, (some v gd conferences can get 4 or 5, ga tech's conference, named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) gets a NCAA record 6) makes it to the national finals, which consists of 64 teams all over the country.

now its a interesting fact. one of these 20 to 30 conferences is named 'Ivy League.' ahh. u im sure we've heard tt one over n over again. get it get it? when we refer to ivy league universities, we r actually referring to them in athletic terms. its a big misconception tt we all refer to the members of ivy leagues om terms of academic supremacy. but tts not wrong either, all the 8 members in Ivy League happens to be all academically excellent, but tts coz Ivy league is one of the oldest conferences. n i told u bout the region thing, i juz realised all the ivy league unis r situated in north east america. u discover new things everyday eh? o, juz for info, only one of the 'ivy league' makes it to the NCAA, this yr, princeton, i.e. ivy league sports suck. haha. but ive read somewhere tt sometime in late 19th century, the 8 schs. brown, cornell, columbia, dartmouth, harvard, princeton, upenn n yale decided to form an exclusive group of academically established institution so tt they'll play eachother several times durin the yr, n no other unis can join. tts how ivy league came about.

so, they keep playin for most part of the yr til march, tts when the national tournament starts, tts y 'march madness' coz its time to see who wins! most of tournament matches r held durin march, so many upsets (esp this yr so far) n its really exciting, hence, 'march madness.' now i really get it n its really interesting!! the seedings (rankings n byes) n all, theres juz so much to look around for.

n another thing, we all assosiate the phrase 'sweet 16' for birthdays n all, well, wrong, it was first used to describe the 16 teams tt have advanced from the start of the 64 team national tournament n managed to win the first n the second round of the tournament. funny how we misinterpret n misuse certain things huh?

then it becomes somethin 8, was it supreme 8 or somethin, i gotta check it out, then becomes 'final four' im sure u guys heard of tt one. tts whent he surviving 4 teams compete in the national semis. actually if ur college makes it to the final four, well, tts quite gd already. i mean among 200 or so schs tt participate, gettin to top 4 of all tt is quite amazing. then of cuz after tt whoever wins the semis go to face eachother for the NCAA championship.

u might think tt ive been followin the NCAA since i got accepted to ga tech, but tts not true actually. ive actually been lookin for scores n followin wats been goin on since i arrived here. there was this big case in early march coz the nationally no.1 ranked team (the sports papers n the press compiles a list of top 25 all the time, even tho the actuall nationals hasnt started, juz for stats sake n braggin rights of the sch) called St. Joseph's was beaten by an unranked n unseeded team when they were unbeaten throughout this season (about 29 games) durin their conference title quarter finals. n then now the top few seeded team hav been beaten in the first n second round too.

yep, so georgia tech made it to the sweet 16 for the first time since 96. they've beaten boston college 57-54 in the second round n northern iowa 65-60 in the first. they didnt win the ACC title, coz national no.4 duke beat em in the quarters. n duke lost to maryland in the ACC finals to halt duke's 7 or 9 straight ACC title record or somethin. so yea, ive been followin for sometime.

the system's real cool. play against members of ur conference about three or four times n based on the final standings in the conference, the colleges play for the conference title in a knock out format. then accordin to the confence's record in the past 10 to 20 yrs, number of teams allowed to participate in the NCAA r alloted, so the top few of each conferences r all placed into a huge rankin, where then they seed each teams into four difference areas, n furthur seed them into 16. so there r like four regions for the 4 groups of 16, n they play within their pot til whoever emerges victorious, the top four, as i mentioned earlier, will b the final four. haha. tts the shortest n the simplest way to describe how NCAA works. its really addictive.

so ga tech meets nevada, who has upsetted the no.2 seed in the region (ga tech is seeded no.3 in the region) for the regional semis. i seriously think ga tech has v gd chance of makin the regional finals. some r sayin they can even make the final four this yr coz the other pair in the region hav gotten rid of the no.1 seed.

k, its been a long blog. but yea, basically wat ive been doin is checkin data n info on ga tech, observin how the NCAA is goin n juz general bummin around.

Final Score from St James' Park;
Newcastle United 3
Alan Shearer (2nd & 77th)
Jermaine Jenas (35th)

Charlton Athletic 1
Claus Jensen (54th)

A familier scoreline. That gets rid of one of the closest contender for the much coveted championd league spot for the next year. Now newcastle and liverpool are on same term with points as well as goal difference. I think it'll be a repeat of the battle for last spot like last year, coz Liverpool and Newcastle will be meeting eachother on the last match of the season. Was this predetermined or wat, but i just find it very awkward. But it'll be interesting only if these two teams remain being on level with eachother til that final day.

Kinda scary, coz the whole fortune of the club can turn around on that match. about a fortune of 20 million pounds up front and somemore tv revenues and all once ure in the champs league.

yea it sure is scary...
hey ppl!

sorry for the lack of updates... as ive been sayin n sayin, surfin in 56k n doin work is pissing me off. so? no updates. jeez, i cant even get to mail my friends coz calls keep comin n my line trips, which closes all internet activity. damn AOL. ten more days n i'll get my DSL line from SBC Yahoo! so then i can really do my net stuff...

okay...

so... i got another acceptance. this from the great University of Southern California. That '70s Show's Topher Grace (Eric) is a current student and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) is an alumni. USC. A school that I initially wanted to go to, coz of its reputation, ranked 30th in the whole country, my cousin doin his masters there, they are the national champs in NCAA american football. so everything to look forward to.

except... financing. it being a private university, the tuition rate rockets up. n living cost is gonna b so ex, coz its in LA. sigh. its engineering department doesnt compare to that of georgia tech. so, i guess USC is a no-no, even if i wanted to.

sigh. if i had known a little info bout my dad, which i cant disclose here, i wouldnt hav applied to any private unis at all. juz goin to a public uni is like spendin 60% of wat u would spend in a private uni.

now im gonna hav a real headache should i get accepted to carnegie mellon, coz thats the best uni of all the ones ive applied. then i would really hav to consider, even tho im pretty sure i wont get admitted to that one. but then again, ive been accepted by georgia tech n USC, which i didnt expect, so anythin can happen.

i didnt really look at the livin cost til the money problem surfaced. i was supposed to apply for aid, so it wasnt an important thing. now tt my dad cant file the papers before the deadline, its a major issue.

that bein the case, i only hav two choices for universities. georgia tech, and mayb i hav to transfer to univ of illinois urbana champaign next yr. these two unis, together wit uni of texas at austin, are top notch unis wit a very very cheap expense. my dad's friend quoted 'these universities who are so well established academically, its amazing to see that they charge so little.'

so yea, im heading to atlanta for sure now. i'm officially a 'yellow jacket.' tts the nickname for the students in the uni. tts the only thin im not happy abt. at least USC has the nickname, 'trojans' and umass 'minutemen' as their nickname, georgia tech is just 'yellow jacket' coz the mascot is a bumble bee. tts quite.. erm...

well, i guess its coz nothing compares when u previously had the nickname as a 'saint.' tts the ultimate. but ah well, im a yellow jacket now.

oh, another thing, georgia tech is predominantly male. about 68-70% male. i mean duh, its basically a full fledged engineering school with pretty much no other major than the school of science, how many females study engineering, its mainly a indian male field. so there goes my potential breakthrough in adventures wit a college girl. haha, not like tts important, but this will prove to some of u who think i'll b playin around that i wouldnt b screwin around once im in college, since female population is less than 30%. n dont worry, i wont turn gay, or so i think. haha.

yep, so one hurdle, still havent got to call the admissions office to let them know bout my A Level grades. hope that doesnt really influence. it shouldnt actually.

but you never know.

okay, will b back wit more posts soon, im feelin real hungry here.

n guys, any idea when we'll get our official cert? i need to tell those ppl in the admissions office.

wheee... im a georgia tech yellow jacket now...!

Thursday, March 18, 2004

dammit, i forgot to slot my R Kelly 'R' into my CD pouch.. i really want tt right now... tho his music changed a lot now, that album is one album tt still keeps the soul alive. dammit.

anyway...

was watchin the news, there's this guy, very brutal, dont know if i mentioned this before, but this guy, o'reilly, he was interviewin a particular person.

i dont know where to start. theres two sides n i really cant take any sides.

ok, lemme start wit this. u all know there's this huge thing tts goin on wit same sex marriages right now in the US. so big, its up there on top political issues tt affect the elections this yr too.

anyway, this guy, he was doin his masters degree in baylor uni, which is a baptist uni in texas. he was doin a divinity study or somethin.

ok, here's the case, he got his scholarship cancelled coz he admitted that he was gay. not directly, but he did admit durin interviews tt he supported homosexual causes n campaign or somethin.

ok, one, it was wrong for the school to cancel the scholarship. but considerin its a baptist uni, it has its reason, gd enough, coz its student bein gay in a baptist uni is somethin to b bothered about.

so, yea, it was wrong of the sch. but on the other hand... the student must've been fucked in the head, to admit tt fact, when he knows more than anyone else he's goin to a baptist university and seekin scholarship on top of that.

so, yea, i really dunno which side i should b taking, coz i also think it was gd of him tt he was v open n frank about himself. i mean if ure gay, sure, admit it. theres nothin to hide, i think everyone should b like tt. not afraid of bein who u r n all.

so, v weird n controversial issue. a crazy one at tt.

Wednesday, March 17, 2004

okay, sorry there hasnt been much updatin lately...

main reason could b tt i tend to write a v long email to my friends. so to each person i might b spendin like 30 min typin. n i had to do my warranty things for the electronic products, then send a mail to my deputy principal as well as head of department on my updates, then update the blog links n codes, as well as bringin over the whole codes over to my website and then updating. all on 56k. its more like im runnin on 30k, so u can imagine how long tt takes.

my fingers r so cold, im havin difficulty typin..

its still snowin. when i wake up, n i look out of the window, the neighbourhood's covered in whiteness. like theres nothin else. the fields, grass all covered. fantastic. but i want warmth.

anyway...

american idol last night was fantastic. camile didnt sing so well, the only reason why she's still in might b coz the judges hav seen wat she's capable of, but not showin. she might not last long, even tho she'll not b the one kicked off later on today, i think tt'll b leah. she did a gd job wit her hair, she looks so pretty. but i tot she was gonna cry when simon told her to pack her bags. boy, tts gotta hurt.

but i called up n voted for camile anyway. there might b 20 million over votes, but i hope mine counts. as long as it keeps camile in the competition.

see, i would wanna talk bt these things right after i see the show, but since i cant spoil the show for u guys in singapore, i gotta wait like 12 hrs.. i know ppl will kill me coz i spoilt it for couple of my friends back in the days when i didnt follow the show n since US shows it earlier, i could find the results out on the net. but not this time, no way to spoil the show for me. :) i still could, from here, but i think this season's the best yet, we might b seein 3 or 4, mayb more future stars out of this top 12.

oh, winfrid told me bout this netstat thing (do u all see the lil graph like picture on the right of powerwebmusic banner?) n its pretty cool. i can see how many visits i had on which day, the total visits n the coolest ones, from which country n which network. i pretty much can figure the singapore readership, but some i may not b aware of. US, its me, my bro, my cousins. UK, its the one n only naveen, Canada, is catherine. mayb leo. Indonesia... has marc gone back to indonesia? yea.. n i wonder where the unknowns r.

but the stats r really cool. beats the counter.

kk gotta go for lunch. see ya guys

oh, i couldnt sign up for the referee thing, course full. dang. ah well.

Monday, March 15, 2004

brrr...

its march. MARCH. mid-transition state between winter n spring. so it should b gettin warmer!

bloody hell. approx 3:30pm, it started snowing.

yes. when its cold enough, it juz gets better. non stop for like 2, 3 hrs? within an hr, the brown grass n the brown tiles of the houses nearby were all covered in white layer of ice.

i wish i could convert the photos i took n post em here. it'd b like 800kb if i post here.

i cant recall the last time i saw snow falling like this. i was probably too young to remember when it happened back in kyoto.

i dunno if i should b delighted or angry.

cos its freakin cold. n its supposed to b near spring.

if it goes on like this, we'll never see spring. nor summer for tt matter.

damn u chicago... get warm!
How much longer for Bobby? By 'The Insider' from www.soccernet.com

Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 0 Newcastle United

In an era when foreign ideas and the quality of boiled chicken and pasta for pre-match meals seems to be more important than old-school management, you wonder what place the likes of football knights Alex Ferguson and Bobby Robson have in the modern game.

Robson: No smoke without fire? (TonyO'Brien/Empics)

As Sir Alex suffered one of the biggest indignities of his managerial career in the Manchester derby, you couldn't help but feel Sir Bobby was struggling to find enjoyment from his day out in the North London rain.

The tales that have been emanating from St James' Park this season leave you with little doubt that there can be no smoke without fire. Robson reportedly resigned back in October after their poor start to the season, only for the story to be denied.

Then there was the suggestion that other high-profile managers were being lined up to take his job, followed by his apparent bust-up with Alan Shearer when he dropped him for the UEFA Cup game last month. The last Newcastle manager who dropped Saint Alan lasted about three days in his job, so at least Bobby has beaten that record!

There was a time when the genial nature and experience of the veteran former England boss left many to assume that he may see his 100th birthday out as Newcastle manager, but since their Champions League exit in the preliminary round stage at the start of this season, Robson has been fighting a long and apparently fruitless battle against his doubters.

They may still land fourth spot and return to the top-level European football Newcastle's board now demand, but this is a season when those fanatical Toon Army followers were expecting so much more.

And as the grandfather of English football paced up and down the White Hart Lane touchline in front of the media who have so often tormented him in his remarkable career, he appeared to be lacking the life and passion he showed in his early days at Tyneside.

However, it is wrong to dismiss the man who has revitalised Newcastle United without some reflection. Those who criticise Robson neglect the fact that he has taken a club that has not lifted a major honour in the modern era and positioned them back among the Premiership's elite - and the only question now is whether he is the man to take the club onto the next level.

And even though this game ended in defeat, Newcastle were unfortunate losers. Robson's front two of Craig Bellamy and Alan Shearer tormented the Spurs centre-back pairing of Gary Doherty and Anthony Gardner all afternoon and the Magpies often maligned defence kept the dangerous trio of Keane, Kanoute and Defoe quiet throughout.

The first half was a tepid affair that was only sparked into life by long-range shots and a penalty appeal that infuriated Robson and his players. When Aaron Hughes tumbled in the box after 26 minutes, it looked like a spot-kick.

From where we were sitting - and that was the same view enjoyed by the Newcastle bench - it seemed that Maurico Taricco had tripped the Northern Ireland international in the box and the fury of the visiting players further confirmed Robson's belief that his team had been denied. His angst was taken out on referee Webb as he confronted him in the tunnel at half time, pointing and shouting with venom.

They say the sign of a manager's authority is how his player's respond to a half-time team talk and Newcastle were invigorated at the start of the second half. Passing the ball superbly, they came close to breaking down Tottenham's leaky defence on a couple of occasions, but they lacked a cutting edge.

Newcastle were on top, but the opener so nearly went Tottenham's way after 68 minutes as Defoe hooked an effort towards goal and Jonathan Woodgate was at full stretch to scoop it off the line. That before the ultimate indignity befell Robson and his team as substitute Stephane Dalmat inspired the winner.

His low cross on 85 minutes would have been tapped in by Keane were it not for the intervention of Andy O'Brien, but the Newcastle defender did the job for his Ireland team-mate and Sir Bobby could only hang his head on the touchline resign himself to another defeat.

'We didn't deserve that,' he protested. 'If anything we deserved to win and the penalty decision that went against us is a nonsense. I confronted the referee and told him that he has to have the courage to give that decision. It was a stone-wall penalty. What was he doing, not seeing it?

'He also got it wrong when Bellamy went into the box and Gardner pulled him back. Then we were hit hard in the last minute and it is a massive blow to us. Our first way defeat in a while and now the Charlton game next week is massive for us.'

The suggestion has been that Robson is a tired figure these days and he appeared to be showing signs of fatigue as he faced the press again today. 'What is failure for us this season, I don't know,' he added. 'The top three teams are away and gone this season and fourth has to be our target. We should be there challenging for that position, but I don't know. It's wide open, up for grabs and we have to go after it.

'I want to be where the top three are. We are not there. In the transfer window, the top three clubs bought three great players for more than £10m each. No one else has money to compete with that at the moment, so my job is getting tougher all the time.'

David Pleat's ever jovial press briefing focused on the influence of Dalmat for the final quarter of the game. 'We took off Kanoute went for a more balanced line-up in the final few minutes,' stated the acting-Spurs boss. 'In the end, fortune favoured the brave and we got the all-important goal and I cannot fault the players for their commitment and determination.'

Frederic Kanoute gets his cross away from Laurent Robert (TonyO'Brien/Empics)

Pleat knows that his career as a Premiership manager is almost certain to end this summer. You just wonder whether Sir Bobby Robson's time in the high-pressure world he has lived in for such a long time will have a similar lifespan.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Anthony Gardner - On a day when the embarrassing Dean Richards was finally dropped, Gardner showed that he looks a much better player when he is not playing alongside Tottenham's £8m defender.

FOOD WATCH: A rather tasty moussaka with rice, with meat pies on offer at half-time. We will come back here again!

PRESS BOX CHATTER: Another one out. It seemed that the test match in Jamaica was of more interest to most of the hacks on a when England's cricketers ran riot.

SIR BOBBY WATCH: His side deserved better, but that is the story of Newcastle's season. You don't expect a man in his 70s to bound around the touchline, but his shoulders were sagging for much of the afternoon.

hmm, so i finally moved into our own house yesterday...

somehow it feels weird... coz its really our home.

spent the night, n from now, i guess the real thing begins.

kinda cool. ive got a lot of things to do. i gotta call up the refereein association to see if they hav any more vacancies for their refereein course. i might b doin some refereein in april, as a part time job. pay depends on the level of the students. since ive tried lookin around for recreational league for me to play in, n found out there isnt much openin for men above 18 in america, except play permanently, which i cant, coz i'll b leavin naperville by august, i decided either b a coach or referee. so happened tt my bro got a brochure from sch tt was hiring n encouragin ppl to sign up for referees. so tts one.

i might b tutorin a grade 7 boy for maths. got to meet her mom durin a social gatherin set up by mom's friend. she got to know couple of japanese ppl in the community here n she's fittin in so well, i even got dragged, so might b tuturin for money. gd stuff. american grade 7 maths cant b tt tough to teach.

takin the written drivin test hopefully by thursday this wk. when tts done, then i gotta get back to my further maths study n since ive got a comp, resume wit my C++ self teachin.

i saw an ad for used cadillac el dorado for US $5000. tt's SG $8500. can u believe it, a decent car for tt price? i mean i can find somethin more cheaper, like the neighbour's dunno wat brand car. but this el dorado is the perfect one for first timer.

gotta fill up some registration forms for the pc, tv n printer as well as dvd. tts gonna b a bitch.

n yea, takin stuff out from the suitcase n appropriately puttin em to the right places. tts kinda sad, but i'll b packin the same old thing come august, when i leave for college.

n of cuz, i gotta call georgia tech n let em know my transcript will come late. i still dunno when the official cert will b ready to b picked up, any estimation anyone?

k its so windy, the windows r rattling here.

talked to my cousins over the net, the one in mit discourages me to transfer to mit during undergrad coz she think i'll hav no life. she advised me to come as graduate, if i decide to do my MBA. another one tells me georgia tech is such a small sch, its better if i transfer to uni of georgia, where the univerisity is more like the city. sounds appealin enough. campus is huge, n anywhere u go, its like a part of the campus, cheap stuff, coz majority of the shoppers r students n all. not like atlanta, where the sch is in the middle of the city (like how smu will b near orchard) n things might b ex. n gettin a dorm in georgia tech supposedly isnt easy. i hope my cousin stays on in georgia. then i'll hav at least a member of the family 2 hrs drive away for weekend. i think we'll hav a lot of fun if we get to do tt. n its warm!

so i get rejected by purdue, coz they cant analyse my A level coursework, n uni of illinois coz my transcripts reached late n the course capacity was already filled. umich wants me to take TOEFL, n i havent heard from the rest. tts 9 more schs. damn, if i had known bt my financial position n tt i would b movin to naperville n all earlier (i got to know only in january) i would hav only applied to 6 schs! illini, gatech, berkeley, amherst, austin n north carolina state u. damn. i spent like US $575 on applications alone. ah well, things like tt happen.

but from the way my cousins make it sound, im in for a rollin time.

n its pretty much clear now tt caltech n mit is not in the list, n its better for me to actually graduate from georgia tech, i might as well request for my 12 hr credit for my results in the A's. oh, in case i havent mentioned here, wit my B in maths n C in phy, i get to skip 4 hrs of intro calculus 1 lecture n 8 hrs of intro phy 1 n 2 combined. isnt it funny? n the credits u get for maths n phy is the same even if i were to get A on both subjects. so i got the bare minimum grades to skip those lectures. so i get to skip like a lot of lectures, so i can explore atlanta. but i juz found out, all freshmen has to do chem, phy, maths, eng, social science n humans in order to go on to study the major.

bitch....
Final Score from White Hart Lane;

Newcastle United 0

tt ass... he's gonna b the end of newcastle's league campaign!!! he's so reliable at time, n yet, he's so prone to fuckin things up...

4th place finish is gonna b a lil tough ride...

o, man utd's year is effectively over.. haha, crash out of champs lg, heavy defeat to neighbours man city yet again, and if they continue, they r sure to get whacked by arsenal in the FA cup semis.

since ive got an Yahoo! account... and it so happens Yahoo! owns GeoCities now, i tot i might as well build on a web page that Yahoo! makes it available to all users. i mean, i cant actually expand this page other than the frequent entries. theres nothin more to a blog. so here's the web page.

-deleted-

i used to hav a page in geocities long long time ago. boy, has it been like almost 5 or 6 years since i had tt page? since then i moved to alta vista, excite n others but could not really keep it up to date wit the 28k i owned at tt time. how times fly.

wonder if i can still reach those pages. i assume they've been locked out due to inactivity in account...

now i am really convinced some people hav nothin better than to gossip other's misfortunes...

supposedly someone's been spreadin the word of my dismal performance in the a levels to the other people in the community. n she seems to know in great detail - even tho ive no idea who tt person is n certainly am sure ive not talked to her.

heh...

but u know wats funny? she doesnt even mention one word tt ive been accepted to a sch whose engineering program is ranked top 5 in the u.s. - better than those of cornell, harvard, and a whole lotta other bunch of schools theyve heard of.

yea, so, trust the words of a gossiper. i aint bothered, i aint concerned, i aint gonna giv a fuckin damn.
man man, the house is comin out to b pretty nice day by day!

juz got my dining table wit 4 chairs, another table tt'll b a small one in the kitchen, n hasib's study desk n his chair.

should b gettin the sofa n another livin room table soon.

anyway, as i was sayin bt the coldness... guess i was rite, its sub-zero temp today n i didnt know it was! im typin funny rite now, always havin to recorrect certain words, coz my fingers, sorry, my whole hands r numb from the coldness. i helped the furniture guys out n as one of they guys confirmed it, they seemed to b tired from a long day in this weather. n that guy said he felt like it was gonna b bt 60F (about 15 to 16 deg celcius) today, but when i walked to my home n juz now when i was helpin them out, he said the weather was around 20F! u noe wat tt means? its like bloody -5 or -6 deg celcius!!!

ive never weathered such temp b4. as chicago is known as the windy city, the strong winds didnt help.

i need to soak my hands in warm water after this. its still v numb n its lookin purple. man.

i long for the sunny days. i was chattin wit beks n she told me it was a lil cool there, wit the constant raining. believe me ppl, i would still prefer tt 'cool' weather coz if tts cool, its extremely freezin out here.

when i was walkin towards my place from my uncle's place, a daily walk (its only bt 200-300m walk) i tot i would suddenly lose consciousness coz the winds kept retardin my movements n the cold was bitin into my hands n face. i was practically tellin myself to go on n not stop.

ah well, gotta go soon, its 6 n gettin dark, before i know it, the temp's gonna get colder!

i juz wanted to comment, but ppl here r so nice. the two furniture guys juz now, as they were bringin stuff in n out, we were havin a conversation. bout weather, their work, the house, etc. ive been doin tt wit everyone these past few days now. i admire the fact tt they can kick off a conversation wit a complete stranger anytime, anyday. when i go to supermarkets, even old ladies say 'how r u doin today?' as they're passin by. im tryin to maintain a decent conversation, but its hard, coz everyone's juz so friendly here. i remember once when i was in hv's deli france, one caucasian women started talkin to the cashier about wat she should buy coz she happened to hav tried almost everythin n she requested for somethin gd n the cashier (a local) juz stared at her like 'uhh, wat can i say now?'

i guess tts y everyone's so stressed n they dont like work. ppl here love their job n u can see it. went to a mattress place yesterday n i could really tell that guy took pride in his work n i could feel his enthusiasm. tts how work should b. i think we're all too concerned wit how much we earn n wat kinda workin hrs we'll b havin n the number of breaks, etc. those things should b the least imp, at least tts the kinda vibe i get from these ppl here.

a gd lesson to n learnt.

k i better head back, its gettin quite dark. i shall blog again when i can use my uncle's laptop.
k its been a real cold day!

when i saw on the news last night tt it was 29 degrees fehrenheit (approx -1 deg celcius) in chicago downtown, i was like, whoa? isnt it near spring break already? when is the spring really comin then?

but i got to feel it myself today. for the past few days, ive been transportin stuff by hand n foot to our place from my uncle's place where we still reside. each day, theres some kinda delivery, mon was bed, tues was tv, n today was supposed to b some more furnitures but the ppl arent here yet. hmmm, wonder if they're comin at all.

wait, here they are! speak of the devil!

be back later guys

Alan Shearer (71st)
Laurent Robert (74th)
Titus Bramble (84th)

Real Mallorca 1
Fernando Correa (57th)

Yes, YES! wat a comeback from one nil down! wit this scorelines, it's v unlikely that mallorca will stage any thrashing in the 2nd leg, meaning, the toon army's probably through the the quarter finals! might hav real chance of winnin the cup if they continue to play this way! its been a long time since we played well in cups, actually not really, we were gunnin for QF place in the champs lg last season, but its gd to b in tt kinda position. woohoo, feels real gd!

i finally got the DVD of Rage Against The Machine's last concert in Grand Olympic Auditorium n it rocks. Tom Morello is juz a genius. how can anyone make the impossible of sounds juz wit an amplifier n an electric guitar? only he can do it. n to top it off, he's a harvard graduate. n a rock star. n a political activist.

anyway, was contemplatin buyin the audio cd version of the concert, but decided for the DVD, since u can see the performance n it doesnt sound tt gd on audio only basis. n i dun regret tt. it would hav sounded quite bad, wit all the ppl screamin n all. plus, the DVD has additional footage of the band performin right next to the democratic national convention 2000.

i think for a political band like RATM, the biggest prize/accolade would b voicin out ur political stand right next to an election, such as the Democratic/Republican national convention or the presidential election. n i think RATM is the only one to hav succeeded in doin such a stunt. i mean, think about it, political activity wit thousands of people attendin the concert n juz across the road, bunch of senators, governers n politicans are conferencing.

tts like the grammy for political bands. or the hall of fame for tt matter.

but when i look at their performances n the hard core 'fans', i wonder how many of em actually care about RATM's political views. i cant help but shrug the feelin tt most of the fans listen to them coz they're a good n talented rock band; not because of their shared political views. i mean how many people are strong political activists n also a heavy rock listener rite?

my first RATM songs were 'guerilla radio' n 'wake up'. i didnt know wat they were sayin till i read their lyrics. after tt, i was blown away. they've kinda fuelled my desire for free speech, mayb tts y i was a lil too liberal wit the way i expressed things, be it among friends, in school, to people of higher authority. a rebel with a cause, tt was wat i am. unlike ppl who make a scene juz for fun n no other reason but cheap thrill.

even tho theyve broken up years ago, they still fuel my views on the u.s. government's treatment of policies n constitutions. in a good sense. im really gonna b like those college boy ive seen in shows, those who hav an opinion n not afraid to voice it. is tt gd or bad? not sure yet.

anyway, juz a section from one of their hits 'no shelter'

"american eyes, american eyes
view the world from american eyes
bury the past, rob us blind
n leave nothing behind"
guys, im back...

our new pc is up n running.

tho im still usin the old 56k modem wit AOL connection.

i'll b gettin cable v soon, then i can unleash this monster of a computer...

its specs..?

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (comparable to Intel P4 2.8-3.0 GHz)
160GB HD
512MB DDR SD RAM
48x CD-RW/16x DVD-ROM
5 USB Port
8-in-1 Media Reader (Secure Digital, Smart Media, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Microdrive, Multimedia Card, USB)
64MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Graphic Card
nForce 6 Channel Sound Card
17' Flat Panel Screen
10/100 Mbps Ethernet

its more than enough to handle everythin really...

but its futile w/o the DSL or LAN line..

urgh...

Truth Is A Whisper by Goo Goo Dolls

Truth is a whisper and only a choice
Nobody hears above this noise
Always a risk when you try and believe
I know there's so much more than me

Yeah I got caught in the ruse of the world
It's just a promise no one ever keeps
And now it's changing while we sleep
And no one can see

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you
You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something

Sometimes you choke on the smell
Just to breathe
I need to question what I need
Rhythm of silence
That beats through your mind
Still you forget what you deny

Yeah I got caught in the ruse of the world
It's just a promise no one keeps
And now it's changing while we sleep
And no one can see

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you
You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something

Who's the one you answer to
Do you listen when he speaks
Or is everything for you
And do you find it hard to sleep
Or is it easy on your own
Will you ever find some peace
Before you're gone

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you
You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something
fuck...

juz got an email from georgia tech tt i hav to submit my final grades for the year.

n that could influence their final decision.

i dont get it.

if they already said they admitted me, then how can they try to reject me based on the final grades?

now i hav a major reason to b concerned about....
someone please kill me coz i dunno wat the fuck happened.

n im not kidding.

its like my whole world turned upside down.

i think being accepted to georgia tech n umass before my A level results were out was probably a blessing in disguise or something.

i mean by right, my results shouldnt make shit difference. but i'd still wanna b proud of the effort i put in. esp from a subject tt has become a firm favourite of mine in the recent years.

n after all that, I get a C. of the only one subject i was convinced i would get the only A i could dream of gettin in the A Levels. i dont care if i got a surprise B in Maths. i would trade that for E to get an A in physics. but i didnt. u guys all know i gave up on my chem ages ago. so u would find it funny to find out tt im more bothered about gettin a C for physics than gettin an E for chem.

i... i am juz speechless.

my worst case scenario included physics as a B. wat could possibly hav went wrong? the only mistakes i recall r the practicals and omitting some definitions. dont tell me that cost me an A n got myself a C.

believe me, i wanted an A for phy til an extent tt i dont mind gettin two Fs for the other two.

so i dunno wats going on.

fuckin hell...

i shouldnt b bothered... since its more or less confirmed tt im goin to an established engineering school. but it hurts. it hurts so bad. coz i dont understand y. im fightin back tears. n findin it hard to battle such a simple thing.

i need time to get over this supposedly trivial matter. a long time i mean.

dont expect me to b bloggin for some time. i need some coolin off. ah fuck it, its not like ive been bloggin regularly these few days.

now where r those CDs... i need my goo goo dolls... and coldplay...

hey guys...

sorry there hasnt been much updating. my uncle's takin real estate classes n he juz finished his exam today, so i can finally get myself updated wit the news n reply to people, n of course, to blog.

so i guess i missed my blog's half year anniversary then. 6 mths isnt much. 1 yr will b. by then i would b gettin prepared for college.

ah, university update. i got rejected by purdue. coz accordin to the letter that went to singapore, dad said that they could not assess my academic records fairly and on that basis, could not grant me admission. i knew it was comin. i mean, how many people apply as u.s. citizen n provide british standard academic results? (i guess its only me) so on that note, i cant blame purdue, since they're assessin american high school format n they would definately find it hard to compare that to wat ive gone through. but then again, they could refer my case to the international committee but grant admission rite? ah heck, no pt arguing.

so since that happened wit purdue, im afraid im expectin more rejections. coz i bet many other schools will also have probs assessin my grades n curricula. now my hopes are only on three unis. univ of california - berkeley, univ of illinois at urbana-champaign and univ of michigan - ann arbor. actually only berkeley n urbana-champaign will prevent me from goin ahead to georgia tech. only coz their engineerin department is better than georgia tech's. the only way to move is up. since its only MIT, stanford, berkeley, caltech n urbana-champaign tts better than georgia tech, it makes no sense to go to a uni tt has a department tts below the georgia tech standard.

i think its a blessing in disguise. i always tell myself n other tt i'll transfer. but i get this feelin tt i might stay on n get my bachelors from georgia tech ultimately. if possible, n i mean if possible, then the only 4 schs i'll apply as a transfer will b MIT, Stanford, Berkely or CalTech. it'll b easier to hop onto graduate schs from those 4 schs afterwards. ultimately, its the name that matters, as we've all come to know.

yep, tts it for my uni update.

my bro finally started sch today. he's in grade 9 (sec 3) but the yr will finish in couple of months. wats amazin is tt even tho he's in grade 9, at the end of the day, he takes a maths class that is actually intended for grade 10. he's one of very few students who does tt. so in tt sense, his math is his strong pt. ive found out more bt the high school system here n its v interesting. they take a single science subject for the whole year. not like us, who took 2 or 3 science subject each yr. example, my bro takes bio for the rest of the yr. he then takes chem for the whole of next yr n only phy for the year after. for his final yr in high school he'll do AP science for 2 or 3 science subjects tt he has learned durin the past 3 yrs. i think thats quite reasonable.

but wat i wasnt happy wit was the advisor group. my bro was supposed to start sch last wk. coz they needed paperworkd n a physical, he was delayed til yesterday. when everythin was set, we were told 7 o clock in the freezin mornin tt he couldnt start coz they required a second doze of MMR shot which was not certified in the medical records. the sch nurse could hav told us that last week! y on the last moment? i understand she was juz doin her job, but i tot tt was v unprofessional. i wanted to say somethin, but since it could affect hasib's enrollment, i decided to juz say nothin n b patient. hasib was visibly disappointed. god, a kid's first day in sch destroyed like tt? come on. but ah well, at least everythin went fine today. tt makes up for wat happened yesterday.

so now, its my mom n me left at home. i finished jeffrey archer's 'sons of fortune' its a terrific book, everyone should read it. archer's god in terms of novels that take two people's lives separately n then suddenly bump em into one.

so now i hav nothin to read. seein how hasib is advanced wit his maths, i decided to start studyin n put a good use to my time. so i started self studyin further maths. yea, i brought wit me the bunch of notes that i got from jonas. its gonna b useful now. since i dont hav much access to computer yet, i hav to delay the C++ thing, so wat else is there? maths. sickenin, but since it'll help me in the long run once i start uni, i tot i might as well.

yea, if not for that, the japanese acquaintance we made, Mrs. Oshiro takes us around places. mom does grocery shoppin n furniture shopping. n i play wit her son, Leo, 6. he was v quiet n shy, but he's seen me enough n now he runs around me, punchin me n all. he's v playful, but cute. i mean, apart from them, i hav totally no social life right now. gonna b takin my drivin written test next week, juz got the material, will b readin from tonight onwards. can u believe it, its so easy, Mrs. Oshiro said if i study for 1 week, its more than enough to pass. i was like, whoa. then comes the visual n hearin test, then the actual behind the wheel. i think i'll b gettin my licence by april or may. then the fun starts. yea.

yea, so its gettin a lil monotonous life, but its alrite. i can take it. its not unbearable. but its definately not like the life u guys r imaginin im leading. but yea, a change ive been seekin.

in a sense, i feel like im in a holiday. a long one.

but i guess i dont realise that it isnt.
